Like you’re constantly fighting to get professionals to listen, explaining the same things over and over, researching late into the night because nobody is giving you answers, and carrying the weight of decisions that impact your child’s future every single day?
I have.
I’m Kate, a SEND Mum, founder of SEND Defender, and Level 3 qualified in SEN Law. But long before any qualification, I was simply a mum trying to survive a system that left my family exhausted, overwhelmed, and unsupported.
I’ve lived through children struggling with severe mental health challenges, school breakdowns, and the reality of having two children out of education because their needs were not being met appropriately. I know what it feels like to sit in meetings shaking with anxiety, to receive emails that make your stomach drop, and to feel like you have to become an expert overnight just to protect your child.
Over the years, I started learning and researching because I had no choice. I immersed myself in SEND law, EHCP processes, education rights, and local authority responsibilities because my children needed someone to fight for them. That journey eventually led to tribunal processes, countless hours researching, advocating, writing, challenging decisions, and understanding how the system really works.
When I first started researching SEND law, EHCPs, and education rights, the amount of information felt overwhelming. Everything was filled with legal jargon, huge documents, unclear processes, and conflicting advice. As someone who is neurodivergent myself, I often found it difficult to process, organise, and fully take in what I was reading.
Along the way, other parents started coming to me for help. Questions turned into conversations, conversations turned into support, and I realised how many families were feeling exactly the same way I once did, overwhelmed, dismissed, confused, and completely alone. Because noone really 'get's it' like other SEN parents do...
I know how exhausting it feels when your brain is already overloaded and you’re trying to fight for your child at the same time. That’s a huge part of why SEND Defender exists, to break complex information down into clear, accessible, practical guidance that parents can actually understand and use without feeling overwhelmed.
Not to overwhelm parents with jargon or make them feel dependent, but to help them feel calmer, clearer, and more confident about what to do next. Because sometimes what parents need most is someone who genuinely understands both the emotional reality and the practical side of navigating the SEND system.
You do not have to figure this all out alone. We are here to help you defend your child's rights.
And from one exhausted, stressed parent to another, you are safe here.
Love, Kate x
