How to Apply for an EHCP
A live workshop with Kate Jennings, SEND advocate and SEN mum. Tuesday 27 October, 8pm. £15, replay included.
Has school told you your child won't qualify for an EHCP? That they're "not far enough behind", or you need to wait for a diagnosis first? That they need to do another cycle of "Plan, Do, Review"? Or even that they're scrapping EHCP?
I hear this every single week.
And I heard it myself, more than once, with my own children.
Here's what nobody tells you: you don't need the school's permission to ask for an EHC needs assessment, and the legal test is a much lower bar than most schools make out.

Hi, I'm Kate...
I'm a SEN mum to autistic and ADHD children, I was told hundreds of times my children wouldn't get an EHCP. They are your typical SEN-betweeners.
I'm also Level 3 SEN law qualified and
I studied this properly for my own family first before I became a SEN Advocate.
Everything in this workshop, I've lived through and then qualified in. Today I support families just like yours get the support their child needs in education.
P.S I got my kids their EHCP's without any school support and I'm going to help you to do the same.
What we'll cover:
What the law actually says the local authority has to consider, in plain words
The four broad areas of need, broken down so you can see where your child fits
The evidence you already have (often more than you think) and the evidence you could get
Why need matters more than a diagnosis
What to do if school says your child won't qualify
You'll leave knowing what the first step is, and feeling ready to take it.
Parents and carers in England who think their child needs more support than school is giving, and want to understand how to ask for an EHCP. You don't need to know anything about the law before you come. It's OK that you didn't know this stuff, because you never should have had to.
Live Webinar on Tuesday 27 October at 8pm: one hour, including time for your questions
Can't make it live? The replay is included, so you can watch when it suits you

No worries, you'll get the replay by email and evergreen access, so you won't miss anything.
The law is the same across England, though LAs may have their own forms or processes. We'll focus on what applies everywhere.
The workshop is general information to support you in taking action, not advice on your individual child's case. If you'd like me to look at your application, I offer EHC needs assessment support, feel free to email me to discuss this kate@senddefender.co.uk
